Domain Name System (DNS) Management.
There are 3 basic things needed for a website to function:

1. A Domain Name
2. A Website Host
3. A method to tell the internet where to go to find the website host.

Domain Name System Management is the last piece. The internet doesn't understand names like "billybobonline.com". It only understands numbers. DNS is simply a database that makes the cross-reference possible so that when you go to look at "billybobonline.com", it tells your computer what the associated number is for that name. This is all done behind the scenes and you will likely never even know it.

Why does it need to be managed?

One of the most common scenarios is this:
Customer A bought their domain name 5 years ago and they have had several employees (employees A through F) work on the website. Somewhere along the way, an employee (let's blame Employee D) decided he didn't like to use the company who you purchased the domain through and changed it to one that he likes. Pretty common actually; some are easier to use than others so it makes sense to use one that you understand. Over time, the Domain Name, The Website Hosting Company and DNS all end up in three different places and NO ONE knows ALL of the login information and Passwords necessary to functionally manage the website.

This is a COMMON occurrence.
